The principal of the New York School for the Deaf, Jennifer Labriola explained exactly what a hearing impaired driver should do when stopped by a cop. Using sign language she used the exact signs to notify the person that she was deaf, she advises people to make it known before matters escalate. The school’s superintendent shows what he does to communicate with an officer, he simply pulls down his visor which holds a sign saying “I am deaf or hard of hearing”. The sign allows him to notify cops that he is hearing impaired.

Unfortunately, things took a horrible turn for Daniel Kevin Harris who was just 29 year-old when he was shot by a police officer for speeding. He suffered from mental illness and was deaf, which triggered the officer to shoot him since he was not cooperating.
